So my left-hand ring finger has been bent at eighty-five degrees for many years (Dupytrens contracture), despite having injections that theoretically soften the collagen that formed around the tendon.
The idea was that once the collagen became soft the finger could be snapped straight again. It didn’t work and really hurt. So despite many reservations, four weeks ago I had a procedure that cut the collagen out from my palm and ring finger, and that hurt even more.
My hand is still bandaged but is starting to heal, the ring finger has a vee-shaped channel running to nearly the tip, and at nearly eighty-one I doubt I would like to have the operation again; but it will come back.
And my little finger on my right hand is bent so much that it is nearly touching my palm. only thing they can do with that is to cut it off.
But how amazing all the hospital staff was, best organization in the country, thank you NHS.
